About Breast Augmentation
Breast Augmentation (or enlargement) is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed on women. It is designed to enhance the size of the breast with placing an implant either behind the breast tissue or under the muscle on the chest wall. It helps women who have not been naturally endowed with full breasts, as well as women who have experienced shrinkage of breast tissue following pregnancy.
During your initial consultation with Mr Ritz, he will discuss the procedure with you, pre operatively, what happens during the surgery and your post operative care, and any risks or complications involved, there are risks associated with any surgery no matter how big or small, it is important you are aware of them and understand them. He will ask you questions about your medical history, and about your breasts. Your breasts will be assessed, and measured, he will discuss with you your expectations and desired outcome. It is important you understand your options so you can make the right decision about your surgery. The main things you need to consider are your current breast size and shape, and what realistic outcome you can expect, where the implant is placed, either over or under the muscle, where your incision will be, and the type of implant that would best suit you. You will have the opportunity to look at some different samples of implants, and try some ‘sizers’ that you can put into a bra to show how different sizes will look. We have the latest 3D Vectra imaging machine, where we can take 3D photographs of you to show you a 3D image of an idea of how your result will look. You will have another consultation about 2 weeks prior to your procedure, to discuss the surgery again and answer any further questions you may have.
During the surgery
On the day of surgery you will admit anywhere from 30 mins-2 hours prior to surgery depending on the hospital you are at, Mr Ritz will see you again and draw pre operative markings on you , the anaesthetist will also speak to you. An incision is made in your selected position, a pocket is created where the implant will be placed, an inflatable sizer is used to determine which size looks best, the implant is placed and the wound is sutured and dressed. Drain tubes are placed to remove any excess fluid.
You will return to our office the next day to have the drain tubes removed, in some cases if you are still draining you will need to keep them in for another 24 hours, then you will be fitted in a special bra that you are required to wear for 6 weeks day and night. You will come to our office weekly to have a check up.
Post Operative Care
You are unable to drive for the first 2 weeks, you are also limited with physical activity, including heavy lifting and going to the gym for the first 6 weeks.
